Moneyextra.com is one of the UK's longest-established personal finance websites. The modern Moneyextra.com is the result of a merger between two websites: Moneyworld, the first online personal finance 'webzine' targeted at the general consumer in the UK, which was launched in June 1995; and Moneyextra, which went live in December 1998, with what was already one of the most comprehensive databases of financial products available to consumers on the internet.

The two sites came together in October 1999 when Moneyworld was purchased by Moneyextra. The two separate online entities were fully integrated under the Moneyextra name by June 2000. Moneyextra was acquired by AWD Group in March 2005. In May 2008 Moneyextra was acquired by Moneyextra.com Limited, and became an appointed representative of AWD Direct Ltd.
