The 2007 Moneyfacts Awards ceremony drew several hundred attendees from the UK's personal finance industry. The ceremony is one of the key events in the financial industry's calendar. Representatives from banks, building societies and other financial institutions came together to celebrate and recognise their achievements in the personal finance, savings and mortgage industry.

A keynote speech by John Woods, Chief Executive of Moneyfacts Group reflected on the bad press that financial services get and how the industry should actually be applauded for many of its achievements. He noted, "It wasnt that long ago that most people would never have thought that they or their children could ever own their own property. Now over 70% of the population do. This industry now provides directly or indirectly seven out of ten homes in this country. Over the last 25 years the number of people owning their own homes has increased by 58%."

Among the winners, Alliance & Leicester picked up two awards for its current account - it won Best Current Account Provider (credit interest) and Best Current Account Provider (debit interest).

In credit cards, Sainsbury's Bank won Best Credit Card Provider.(introductory rate) while Best Personal Loan Provider was Moneyback Bank.

More information and a full list of the awards winners and runners up is available on the Moneyfacts website (www.moneyfactsgroup.co.uk/events/awards/moneyfacts2007/).
